From the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistic theory, this symbolism from Abrahamic mythology can be interpreted as further construing the genesis of construing experience as meaning through language.

Here again the creator of meaning verbally projects proposals for the location of one phenomenon and the coming into being of another:

The first projected proposal locates a phenomenon:

let	the waters under heaven	be gathered together	unto one place
Process:	Carrier	attributive	locational Attribute	('phased being' perspective)

and the second brings the opposite phenomenon (or distinction) into being:

and	let	the dry land	appear
	Process:	Existent	existential	('phased being' perspective)
		Goal	material: creative	('happening' perspective)

That is to say, the phenomena of experience are again construed as linguistic construals of experience, made by the creator of meaning.
